This shot was made for the”RESCUE” 3D IMAX movie… During one scen of the movie, while the Chinook rescue team is surveying the damages to Haiti following the massive earthquake, we wanted to see a structure be destroyed by an aftershock, as the chopper is flying over it… During one of the flight where the IMAX camera was rigged to a chopper, we had this great circling shot of the half destroyed Port-au-Prince Cathedral. I suggested to Stephen Low (Director) to use this shot for the aftershock sequence and he agreed…

The team at Oblique FX was challenged by this shot as it involved realistic simulations. They immediately started research on how the Cathedral was constructed. The result is a stunning recreation of the destruction of the Cathedral, one of the most recognizable buildings of Port-au-Prince …
